Tonight, news broke that former NBA player Sean Rooks suddenly passed away. He was only 46 years old. Rooks played in the NBA from 1992-2004 for the Mavericks, Timberwolves, Hawks, Lakers, Clippers, Hornets and Magic. After his playing career, he became a coach and was working as an assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers at the time of his death.
The first three seasons of his career were his best. During that time he averaged 11.9 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Mavs and Timberwolves, mostly as a starter. After that, he was mainly a role player throughout the rest of his career. Personally, I remember watching him during my youth as a solid backup, and I even had one of his basketball cards from his Dallas days.
Judging from the immediate reactions on Twitter, Sean Rooks was a very well respected individual. He clearly meant a lot to the players that had him as a coach, as well as the teams that he once played for. It’s always sad to see someone go before their time, and it seemed that Rooks had a lot more to contribute to the game as a coach. He will most definitely be missed.
